Inspiration:

Sometimes, I know exactly what I am going to make and have a very specific plan in my head of what the piece will look like. Other times, I start with a basic image and the piece develops itself. It feels as if I am only the vessel that the shapes come out through: pieces like this develop on their own and grow and change to become what they are.

I drew the first image of this piece last year after my students were finished with their last TAKS test when we were all relaxing in my classroom. Originally, this necklace was supposed to be a pendant that was very simple, but as I started working on, more of an antique, fantasy style started to emerge. I started this piece in Austin and finished it in San Miguel de Allende, Mexico, this past summer. It drapes beautifully along the collar bone, out over the shoulders and the clasp hangs low on the back.
